Nancy Steele Brokaw is a local playwright and journalist who currently writes for IWU, Holiday Spectacular, Prairie Fire Theatre (PFT), The Pantagraph, and the Illinois Shakespeare Festival (ISF). She has a passion for bringing the arts to children. Her children’s operas tour to thousands in Illinois and California and her Theatre for Young Audiences shows are featured each season at the Illinois Shakespeare Festival.
Nancy graduated from Illinois Wesleyan and attended graduate school at Harvard Divinity School and Washington University.
She was part of the original group that dreamed up the Promise Council in 2009 and she’s stayed active ever since. One of the most rewarding parts of her life has been watching this organization grow from helping one school (Pepper Ridge) to dozens. She’s committed to doing all we can to remove barriers to learning.
Nancy has two grown children and two grandchildren.
