Matt Coates

Board Member

Matt serves on the Illinois Prisoner Review Board.  Prior to his appointment by Governor Pritzker in 2022, he was the Director of Communications for District 87 and the District 4 representative on the McLean County Board. Matt’s employment history includes work as a Community Based Crisis Counselor and Coordinator of Youth Services for the Children’s Home Association of Illinois. He also served as a Restorative School Specialist for Project Oz and is currently on their Board of Directors. Matt earned an Associate’s Degree in Liberal Arts & Sciences from ICC,  a Bachelor of Science Degree in Communications from ISU, and a Master’s Degree in Leadership in Nonprofit Organizations from Bradley. From 2008 – 2011, while completing his bachelor’s degree, he was a member of the ISU men’s  basketball team.

Matt joined the Promise Council Board of Directors in 2023.  During the selection process, he indicated that his mission has always been to make a positive difference in the lives of youth and make our community a better place. According to Matt, “Our students are our future and they need support from our community leaders to help them grow, overcome challenges and reach their potential.” Matt’s mission could not be more closely aligned with the mission and vision of Promise Council. He is a welcome addition to our family of Caring Adults.
